Fabio Pisacane's Cagliari have collected three points from their opening two Serie A matches. They began with a valuable 1-0 away victory over Parma before losing 1-0 at home to reigning champions Inter Milan. Defensively, that represents an encouraging start: Cagliari have conceded only once in 180 minutes of league football, although they have also scored just once themselves. 

The major concern appears to be in defence, where Yerry Mina is listed as suffering from a muscle injury and could miss the match. His absence would remove an important physical presence from Cagliari's back line. Forward Yael Trepy has also been reported as unavailable with physical discomfort. 

With Serie A commitments continuing immediately after this cup tie, Pisacane could consider some rotation, but progressing in the Coppa Italia should remain an important objective.

Verona arrive in Sardinia without a win from their first two Serie B fixtures. Marco Baroni's side lost 2-1 at home to Ascoli despite taking the lead through Samuele Mulattieri, before drawing 1-1 away against Padova. 

Mulattieri is likely to remain Verona's main attacking threat after scoring in the opening match, while players such as Harroui, Sarr, Compagnon and Livramento provide attacking options. The latest available squad information showed Leorat Bega unavailable because of gastroenteritis, although his status for Thursday could change.
