The Saudi Arabian Professional League started last week. In the second round, probably the most interesting game will be between Al Qadsiah and Al Ittihad, last season's 4th- and 5th-best teams. Between the 1st and 2nd rounds, these teams advanced in the King Cup, with Al Qadsiah winning 5:0 against Al Taee and Al Ittihad winning 3:0 against Al Najma.

Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Saudi Professional League tie.

Last season, Al Qadsiah won both H2H games, 2:1 and impressively 5:1 on the road at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Al Qadsiah dominated the duels throughout and deservedly won on both occasions. Looking further back, over the past ten h2h games, Al Qadsiah won three, and Al Ittihad four times.

When it comes to the number of goals, six out of ten h2h games ended with three or more goals, while both teams scored in seven of those ten h2h games.

Al-Qadsiah

Al Qadsiah team overview

Al Qadisiah returned to the Saudi Arabian top flight after winning the 1st Division in 2023/24 and had two magnificent following seasons, finishing 4th. However, looking at their squad, that is hardly a big surprise because they added so many good players and invested a lot of money. For this season, anything but a top four or five spots would be a massive disappointment. At the moment, the bookies see them as the 4th favorite for the title, only behind Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Al Ahli SC.

After a 5:0 win over Al Taee in the Cup, coach Brendan Rodgers was extremely happy with the team's attitude and energy. He highlighted how difficult it can be to maintain the same level of performance against lower-tier teams, making the team's display even more pleasing. Rodgers was particularly impressed by the character and intensity his players showed throughout the match.

Al Ittihad

Al Ittihad team overview

After Al Ittihad won the title in the 2024/25 season, they had a pretty bad one last year, finishing 5th. The departures of Karim Benzema last season and Fabinho this season have more or less stopped them from being title contenders, according to most football pundits. Yes, they added some pieces over the summer, but the impression is that they now lack the quality to compete with the very best teams in the country.

They slipped in the first game of the season, drawing 1:1 with Al Kholood at home. They were the favorites but missed the penalty and eventually received a red card in the 58th minute. On the positive side, they won the Cup game and, more importantly, the AFC Champions League Qualifiers game against Al Jazira 4:1, advancing to the main phase.

Danilo Pereira, who received a red card in the game against Al Kholood, will serve his suspension and will miss the Al Qadsiah game. His absence will be a massive blow, as he is one of their best players. Besides the suspended Pereira, they will most likely miss a few more good players due to injuries: Roger Fernandes, Mahamadou Doumbia, Saad Al-Mousa, and Jan-Carlo Simic.

Prediction

Al Qadsiah started the season well, winning their first game on the road against Al Shabab and looking very good. They finished the game with 3.31 xG, compared to Al Shabab's 1.4, while also having almost double the number of goal attempts.

On the other hand, Al Ittihad drew 1:1 against Al Kholood at home. Danilo Pereira received a red card and won't be available for this game. That is a massive blow, especially considering their other two best center-backs are injured (Jan-Carlo Simic and Saad Al-Mousa). So, expecting a great defensive performance against Mateo Retteui and Julian Quinones seems completely unrealistic.

Moreover, Al Qadsiah won both H2H games and dominated the matches throughout. Considering all the above, we believe the hosts are much closer to winning the upcoming tie.

3 Reasons why Al Qadsiah should win

  1. Al Qadsiah had an 11-6-0 W-D-L record last season at home
  2. Al Ittihad will miss a few important players, including their best center-backs.
  3. Al Qadsiah won both h2h games last season
