Atletico Madrid have been a top-three team in Spain in 12 out of the last 13 seasons. The only time they weren't in the top three was in 2023/24 when they finished fourth. Unfortunately, Colchoneros did not start this season well, considering they sit in 12th place in La Liga with only six points in the first four rounds. Besides their poor start in La Liga, Colchoneros also lost the Champions League opener (3:2) vs Liverpool. 

After a 1:1 draw with Mallorca, coach Diego Simeone spoke to the media. He said they played a good game and even took the lead with a man down. Still, he was unhappy because they allowed a goal from Mallorca's only good chance. "We need to be more effective, both in the opposition's box and in our own. I still believe we can fight for the league, and it is still early in the season," the coach added.

In the last game vs Mallorca, striker Alexander Sorloth received a red card and will be suspended for the upcoming game. However, he hasn't been on an expected level this season anyway and came off the bench in the last three matches.

Rayo Vallecano had an excellent season behind them, at least by their standards. They finished eighth and secured Europe for only the second time ever in their 101-year-old history. This season, they have had a bit of a slower start, winning five points in five rounds, which is around 0.37 points per game fewer than last year. 

After a 1:1 draw with Celta Vigo, coach Inigo Perez spoke to the media. He said they were closer to winning the game and cannot be happy with a draw. The coach also praised the team for its patience and ability to recover after conceding.
