Serie A format in 2026/27

Twenty teams are competing in Serie A, and each club plays the others home and away, so there are 38 rounds of matches in a single season. But it's not just the Scudetto on the line - the top four teams will qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League. The fifth team will play in the Europa League, while the side that finishes in sixth place will earn a spot in the Conference League. The last three clubs will be relegated to Serie B and replaced by the top three teams of that division.

Inter Milan will defend their title in 2026/27, having finished first last time around, ahead of Napoli and Roma. Juventus, AC Milan, and Como will be among the title contenders too, and this season promises to be a very intriguing one.

Cremonese, Hellas Verona and Pisa were relegated to Serie B in 2025/26, as Venezia, Frosinone and Monza replaced them. It will be a dogfight for survival once again, with at least six teams having realistic chances to slide down to the second division. One thing is certain, though - if you are looking for an Italian league prediction, you came to the right place.

When are Serie A predictions published?

Most Serie A matches take place on the weekends. Usually there’s a game on Friday evening and a few matches on Saturday, while the rest are played on Sunday. We’ll publish our Italian league predictions for the weekend games by Wednesday. This will give you plenty of time to read through them and think about the betting options on offer.

If there are any midweek matches, our tips and predictions will be ready by Monday. When creating Serie A tips, we always give our experts enough time. This ensures that they provide the most accurate football predictions possible, which should benefit your betting results. We might not be the quickest to publish the betting previews, but our record proves that this strategy is entirely reasonable.

Serie A winner prediction

For the past four years, Napoli and Inter Milan have traded Serie A titles back and forth. Inter are now the main favourites to win it back-to-back at 2.00. The club appointed Cristian Chivu as their new manager last summer, and he won the title in his first season in charge, which is not something every manager can pull off.

Chivu stuck with what was already working and added his own twist. Denzel Dumfries left for Real Madrid this summer, but the club made some good signings, including Aleksandar Stankovic from Club Brugge and Manuel Akanji from Manchester City. John Stones was signed as a free agent.

Napoli finished 11 points behind Inter last season. Kevin De Bruyne didn't help much in their attempt to retain the title, but the club have now paid €44 million for Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United. We're yet to see whether he can make the difference.

The most decorated club in Italian football, Juventus, have been struggling in recent years. Financial problems have limited them, but they still spent enough money this summer to strengthen the squad. Striker Randal Kolo Muani joined from PSG, while former Bayer Leverkusen striker Kerim Alajbegovic was another addition. There is certainly more quality in the squad now, but Juventus still don't look ready to challenge for the title.

Prediction: Inter Milan to win the 2026/27 Serie A title.

Serie A relegation predictions

Frosinone have played in Serie A twice over the past 10 years and have never managed to stay up for more than one season. The odds on them to be relegated are just 1.33, which suggests there is very little belief they can survive this time either.

Monza spent only one season in Serie B before earning promotion after finishing third. However, their squad still lacks quality at this level. They brought in several young players this summer, yet most of them don't have experience to compete against the giants of Serie A.

Lecce survived relegation by just four points last season and did very little this summer to improve their chances. Several players returned from loan, and their main addition was 24-year-old Willem Geubbels from Paris FC. The Frenchman had a good last season, but one signing is highly unlikely to make a huge difference for a team that was already close to going down.

Prediction: Frosinone, Monza and Lecce to be relegated from Serie A.
