- Date: Tuesday, 11th November, 2025
- Kickoff: 19:00 UK / 20:00 CET
- Venue: Prenton Park (Birkenhead)
On Tuesday evening, a League Two team, Tranmere, will welcome a League One side, Blackpool, in the last round of the EFL Trophy Group Stage. Both teams are in a good position as Tranmere have won five and Blackpool six points thus far. However, the difference in current form is massive as Tranmere failed to win in the last four games, while Blackpool won three in a row.

League One
The last time these teams met in an official game was in the 2019/20 season when these teams competed in League One. That time, Tranmere won 2:1 on the road, while the game at Prenton Park in Birkenhead ended as a 1:1 draw.
Looking further back, over the past ten official h2h games, Tranmere have won three and Blackpool two, while the remaining five ended in draws.
Regarding the number of goals, four of the last ten h2h games ended with three or more goals, and both teams scored in seven of the previous ten meetings.
Tranmere team overview
Tranmere were relegated from League One in the 2019/20 season and were close to returning to League One in the following season. But since then, they haven't been even close, considering their results have steadily declined. Last year, the Rovers finished in 20th place with 51 points. Still, they haven't been too close as they finished nine points away from the danger zone. This season, the Rovers are doing poorly again and are around the last season's average, considering they are averaging almost the exact same number of points.
In the EFL Trophy, Tranmere won two games, although one after a penalty shootout. Since they are two points away from the third-placed Barrow, even one point could be enough for them to move further in the competition.
In the previous EFL Trophy games, the coach Andy Crosby did rotate the squad, but not too much. We expect him to use a similar squad to the one he used in the previous EFL Trophy game against Barrow.

Blackpool team overview
Blackpool suffered relegation from the Championship in the 2022/23 season and had two solid following seasons, finishing eighth and ninth. This season, the Seasiders had an atrocious start, but after changing the coach, they started playing a lot better. Right now, they are in excellent form, having won four and drawn one in the past five matches. Still, due to a terrible start to the season, the Seasiders are in 21st place in League One with 15 points in 15 rounds - two points away from the safe zone.
In the previous game against Cardiff, Josh Bowler suffered an injury and had to leave the field in the 65th minute. He will most likely miss the upcoming game. However, we expect coach Ian Evatt to rotate the squad anyway.

Prediction
Tranmere have been fantastic for this type of bet lately, as we saw both teams scoring in their last five games across the competitions. Also, at home, they really struggled result-wise, but have been good offensively, scoring at least once in eight out of ten games.
Blackpool are in excellent form, having won four and drawn one in the last five games. They scored at least one goal in all of those matches, but only had one clean sheet during that five-game stretch. So, we do not expect them to offer a much better defensive performance. Additionally, they haven't had a clean sheet in all seven road games this year.
Considering all the above, we expect an exciting game with both teams scoring at least once.
3 Reasons why both teams should score
- We saw both teams scoring in Tranmere's last five games
- Blackpool scored at least one goal in the last five games
- Blackpool failed to keep a clean sheet in all seven road games this season
