UEFA Nations League
Scotland and Greece have met twice in recent competitive fixtures, which was the UEFA Nations League, each winning one: Scotland won 1-0 away in Greece (20 March 2025), while Greece responded with a 3-0 victory in Glasgow (23 March 2025).
Scotland team overview
Scotland have made a solid start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, remaining unbeaten in their opening two fixtures. They began with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Denmark in Copenhagen before securing their first victory with an emphatic 3–0 win over Belarus. Notably, this will be their fourth head-to-head meeting with Greece in 2025 - the previous two were in the UEFA Nations League - but a 3-0 defeat at Hampden Park back in March will hardly serve as a confidence boost.
Defensively, however, Steve Clarke’s side have exceeded expectations, keeping two consecutive clean sheets and showing far greater organization at the back compared to earlier in the year.
In terms of squad availability, a few players are ruled out through injury: Zander Clark, Dominic Hyam, and Max Johnston will not feature on Thursday. On a positive note, veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon (42) has been recalled to the squad despite not featuring since May, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the dressing room.

Greece team overview
Greece began their World Cup qualifying campaign in impressive fashion, cruising to a 5-1 home victory over Belarus thanks to an explosive attacking display. However, their momentum was quickly halted just three days later when they suffered a 3-0 home defeat to group leaders Denmark - a result that came as a surprise given their recent form. Before that setback, Greece had been enjoying a four-match winning streak, showcasing both defensive solidity and clinical finishing.
Ahead of the October qualifiers, there are no major injury concerns reported within the Greek camp. Manager Gus Poyet will be pleased to have most of his key players available. One notable inclusion is Dinos Mavropanos of West Ham United, who is expected to strengthen the defensive line and add Premier League experience to the squad.

Prediction
Given the data and recent form, the match looks finely balanced but edges in favour of Greece. Scotland have home advantage and decent recent results (clean sheets, solid defence), and will aim to improve upon the heavy 3-0 loss in the UEFA Nations League earlier in the year. However, Greece's confidence from their 3-0 win in Glasgow, their scoring rate in current qualifiers will give them a much needed boost in confidence.
Prediction: Greece win or draw (double chance x2).
Three reasons we expect Double chance x2
- Greece are unbeaten in 5 consecutive competitive matches in UEFA competitions.
- Scotland have only won one out of a possible 6 home matches across all UEFA competitions in recent years.
- Greece defeated Scotland 3-0 the last time both teams met at Hampden Park in the UEFA Nations League.
Main prediction Scotland - Greece
Greece win or draw (X2)
