Manchester United return to Old Trafford after a vital 1:0 win at Chelsea all but secured a Champions League qualification spot. Matheus Cunha’s goal shortly before half-time proved the difference at Stamford Bridge. 

The Red Devils now sit third in the division, eight points clear of sixth-placed Brighton with only five games still to play.

Much-improved under Michael Carrick, United have won eight and lost just two of 11 games since the appointment of the former Middlesbrough boss. 

Despite their improvements, last week’s clean sheet in London has been the exception, rather than the norm. The Red Devils conceded at least one goal in six of their last eight fixtures. Also six games finished with both teams on the scoresheet.

That outcome has been frequent in recent encounters between these sides. Each of their last five meetings saw BTTS land, with a minimum of three goals scored in four of those fixtures. 

Interim boss Carrick has four potential absentees this week. Matthijs de Ligt (back) and Patrick Dorgu (hamstring) are ruled out through injury, while Bryan Mbeumo and Leny Yoro are both doubtful due to knocks.

Brentford make the trip to Old Trafford after a disappointing goalless draw against Fulham last time out. In a dull contest, Bernd Leno’s remarkable late save proved the highlight, with chances few and far between for both sides.

Remarkably, the Bees have now been held to draws in each of their last six matches, including five successive EPL fixtures 

Recent results have been mixed for goal chasers. Four of seven previous matches finished with at least four goals scored, including three 2:2 draws. The other three games finished goalless. 

Despite their recent inability to turn draws into victories, Brentford remain in the hunt to secure European qualification for the first time in their history. Keith Andrews’ side sit eighth in the division, but only four points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton, while also boasting one game in hand. 

Head coach Andrews has half a dozen potential absentees for Monday`s Premier League fixture. Fabio Carvalho (cruciate ligament), Jordan Henderson (knock), Kaye Furo (muscle), Reiss Nelson (calf), Rico Henry (hamstring) and Vitaly Janelt (knock) are all ruled out through injury.
