Lyon vs Rennes prediction 03.05.2026 | Ligue 1

Lyon had a turbulent offseason, during which they almost got relegated due to financial problems. However, Les Gones have been excellent for almost the entire season. Their only bad period was between late February and early April, when they went on a nine-game winless streak. During that time, they were eliminated from the Coupe de France Quarter-Finals and the Europa League 1/8 Finals, and dropped a lot of points in Ligue 1. However, they responded well by winning three in a row in Ligue 1, including a 2:1 win over PSG in Paris. Right now, Les Gones are in 3rd place with 57 points from 31 rounds. Still, 4th-placed Lille are on level with points, and Rennes are just one point behind. So, they have to continue winning points in order to secure that 3rd spot. 

Orel Mangala suffered an injury in the previous game against Auxerre and had to leave the field after 34 minutes. He is set to miss around two weeks with that injury. Additionally, Malick Fofana, Remi Himbert, and Ernest Nuamah should remain sidelined with their injuries.

Rennes came into this season after two underwhelming seasons, finishing 10th and 12th. This year, the popular Red and Blacks did OK throughout the season. However, four straight losses in late January and early February led to a coaching change. After Habib Beye left and Franck Haise arrived, they were incredible. Looking only at the past ten games, the Red and Blacks are the best team in the league! With only three rounds to go, they are just one point away from 3rd spot and the Champions League appearance next season. So, this game against Lyon could very much decide the fate of their entire season.

For the upcoming match, coach Frank Hasie should have no new absences, but Jeremy Jacquet, Arnaud Nordin, and Przemyslaw Frankowski should remain sidelined with their injuries.
