A likely tight, and low-scoring Copa Libertadores contest seems likely on Wednesday as Deportivo Tachira hosts Ecuadorian champions LDU Quito in San Cristóbal.

Deportivo Táchira come into this clash needing a positive result after a poor start to their Libertadores campaign. The Venezuelan outfit remains pointless after three games, having fallen to defeat against Flamengo (1:0), Central Cordoba (2:1) and in last month´s trip to Quito (2:0). 

A lack of attacking threat in continental fixtures has led to a consistent trend of low-scoring contests, with under 2.5 goals landing in five of their last six Copa Libertadores matches since 2024. At home each of four previous Libertadores matches in San Cristóbal have finished with two goals or fewer.

Visiting LDU Quito have performed better in Group D, with five points collected from three matches.  The Ecuadorian champions held both Flamengo and Central Córdoba to goalless draws, while claiming a 2:0 win against Tachira in April. 

Like the home side, low-scoring outcomes have been frequent in Quito´s continental fixtures. Seven of their last eight Copa Libertadores games have seen fewer than three goals scored, and a similar outcome seems likely this week.
