After losing in the promotion playoff last season, Bristol City could have another try in the current campaign. They are only one point behind the desired spots, and every point could be vital. However, Bristol City didn't play well lately, with only four points in the last four matches. The best game in the period came last weekend, when Bristol City won 2-0 at home against Sheffield Wednesday. Although it took more than an hour to break the deadlock, Bristol City controlled much of the contest and fully deserved the three points.

The transfer window ends next Monday, and Bristol City are still active in the market. They are interested in left winger Middlesbrough's Delano Burgzorg, who has two goals and three assists in 25 Championship matches this season. 

Bristol City have some injury problems. They will be without Joe Williams, Zak Vyner, Luke McNally, Fally Mayulu, and Max Bird on Friday night. 

Derby are two points behind the promotion playoff zone, and while they look more like a mid-table team, the Rams have every right to dream of a return to the English top flight. Derby played well recently, with seven points in the last three matches. In the most recent outing, John Eustace's team played 1-1 at home against WBA. The guests were behind for most of the match, but they finally broke through well-organized Derby's defense and left the hosts with only one point. 

Derby are active in the transfer market, too. In the last few days, there have been reports that the Rams are interested in Shea Lacey (Manchester United U21) and Joe Rothwell (Rangers). Derby needs reinforcements to compete with the best teams in the competition, and surely we should expect some additions from them in the coming days. 

Carlton Morris is injured and will not travel to Bristol, while Max Johnson is questionable and his status will get clearer closer to the kickoff.
