Two European heavyweights face-off on Wednesday as Bayern Munich take on Arsenal in one of the standout fixtures of matchday three.

The Bavarians come into the contest after a six-goal demolition of RB Leipzig, while Arsenal maintained their winning form with a hard-fought victory at Nottingham Forest.

Both teams arrive with plenty of attacking quality and confidence, setting the stage for an absorbing and high-quality contest in Munich.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich team overview

Bayern Munich return to European action after claiming a commanding 6:1 victory against RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Luis Diaz scored a hat-trick, while Aleksandar Pavlovic, Michael Olise and Harry Kane were also on target in a dominant performance at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern had failed to win successive fixtures before Saturday’s demolition of the Red Bull owned franchise. The Bavarians had been held to 2:2 and 3:3 draws against Augsburg and Viking.

Those fixtures highlighted the defensive issues that remain an issue for the free-scoring Bundesliga champions. Bayern conceded at least one goal in eight of their last 11 competitive fixtures.

Vincent Kompany's side have made a solid start to their UCL campaign, with four points picked up from their opening two Champions League fixtures. Bayern began their campaign with a 5:0 home win against Bodo/Glimt before their remarkable 3:3 draw against Norwegian champions Viking.

Bayern have scored 14 goals across their last three matches but have conceded six in that period.

Kompany has two confirmed absentees on Wednesday. Jamal Musiala remains sidelined with a thigh injury, while Olise must serve a one-match suspension following his red card against Viking.

Manuel Neuer is doubtful after missing the last two matches with a foot problem. Jonas Urbig will continue in goal if the Bayern captain fails to recover.

Arsenal

Arsenal team overview

Arsenal make the trip to Munich after securing a narrow 1:0 victory against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Substitute Noni Madueke scored the only goal of the game as the defending Premier League champions collected another important three points.

It was far from a vintage performance from Mikel Arteta's EPL champions.. Arsenal controlled possession but registered only one shot on target before Madueke's deflected effort broke Forest's resistance.

While yet to hit top gear, the Gunners have been remarkably consistent this season. Arteta’s men won ten of 11 games played with a 3:0 defeat at Brighton, their only defeat.

Arsenal have made a perfect start in Europe, collecting six points without conceding. The Premier League champions began their campaign with a 1:0 victory at Napoli before recording a comfortable home win against Lille.

Head coach Arteta has three confirmed absentees this week. William Saliba, Piero Hincapie and Christos Tzolis all miss the trip to Germany.

Prediction

Bayern Munich and Arsenal should deliver an entertaining Champions League contest on Wednesday.

The Bavarians are rarely involved in low-scoring affairs, and I expect goals at both ends in a high-quality UCL fixture.

BTTS is my best bet at the Allianz Arena.

Three Reasons Why We Expect BTTS

  1. Bayern Munich have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches
  2. Bayern Munich have seen BTTS in 7 of their last 8 matches against Arsenal
  3. Arsenal scored 1+ goals in 19 of their last 20 competitive matches
