Al Hilal failed to win their 22nd league title last season, despite finishing the season unbeaten. They eventually finished 2nd, two points behind Al Nassr. However, by winning the Cup title, they somewhat saved the season. This season, the expectations are once again massive, and Al Hilal are considered the main contender for the title. 

The roster did not change too much compared to last season. Striker Marcos Leonardo left to join Ajax for 20 million euros, while Crysencio Summerville arrived for 64.5 million euros from a newly relegated West Ham. 

One reason for Summerville's transfer is that Salem Al-Dawsari's injury could keep him out until early October. Last season, Salem Al-Dawsari scored ten goals and assisted on ten goals in 35 appearances! 

Al-Faisaly suffered relegation from the Saudi Professional League in the 2021/22 season and had an interesting path in the 1st Division. Last year, they had a mediocre start but then went on an incredible eight-game winning streak and eventually secured promotion, escaping the playoffs by just one point. 

For this season, their main goal is to survive somehow. During the offseason, they were very active, adding a large number of players, and on paper, they look like they could avoid the relegation battle. 

Ibrahima Ndiaye, Jaber Issa, and Mohammed Al-Shanqiti should miss the start of the season due to injuries. Ndiaye is undoubtedly by far the best among them, but he played very little last season as he sustained a cruciate ligament tear. The 28-year-old winger is close to returning, but will most likely miss a few more weeks before finally returning to the pitch.
