A crucial AFC World Cup Qualifier clash takes place on Wednesday as the UAE host Uzbekistan in a match that could prove vital in the final standings in Group E.

Uzbekistan make the trip to Abu Dhabi  in strong shape, unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions. Eight games into the WC qualifying campaign, Srecko Katanec’s side side second in the section, three points behind leaders Iran, but four points ahead of UAE. 

Solid at the back and efficient going forward, Uzbekistan will be confident of extending their unvanquished run against a UAE side that they claimed a 1:0 win against in last year´s reverse encounter. 

United Arab Emirates, while still in contention to qualify, have not been at their best in recent matches. The hosts failed to win three of their last five games, including both of their last two home WC qualifiers. As a consquence, head coach Bento has been dismissed, with Cosmin Olăroiu now set for his first match in the hotset. 

While the hosts have won seven of 16 previous encounters against the Uzbekis, the visitors are an improving nation who look capable of going all the way to next summer's finals in the Americas. 

With better form, more defensive stability, and a recent win over the home side, Uzbekistan look likely to pick up at least a draw on Thursday.
