Two teams still searching for their first win of the season meet in North London on Saturday as Tottenham take on Aston Villa.

Sitting 17th and 19th in the division, and with just one goal between them, both sides come into this fixture low in confidence.

Considering their lack of goalscoring form, a tight and tense occasion could be on the cards at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham team overview

Tottenham return to action after suffering a 3:1 Carabao Cup defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday.

Conor Gallagher gave Spurs hope with a second-half header, but Roberto De Zerbi’s much-changed side were unable to recover from a two-goal deficit.

A spectacular late strike from Dominik Szoboszlai sealed a deserved victory for the Reds.

Tuesday’s defeat extended Tottenham's winless run to five matches. The out-of-form hosts have collected just two points from four league fixtures and remain the only Premier League team yet to score this season.

That lack of quality in the final third has seen under 2.5 goals land in each of Tottenham’s last three EPL fixtures.

A dismal home record remains a serious concern for a side that finished 17th in each of the last two seasons. Spurs won only three of their last 24 home Premier League fixtures but did beat Villa on the final day of last season.

De Zerbi made eight changes to his first XI at Liverpool and is expected to recall several regular starters. Antonin Kinsky, Micky van de Ven, Mateus Fernandes, Mohammed Kudus and Omar Marmoush are among those likely to return.

Pedro Porro is available again, but Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski, Sandro Tonali, Wilson Odobert and Mykhailo Mudryk remain sidelined.

James Maddison is also doubtful to feature.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa team overview

Aston Villa make the trip to North London after securing a  3:1 Carabao Cup victory against Coventry on Wednesday.

Tammy Abraham scored twice, while Ross Barkley was also on target as Unai Emery's men claimed a much-needed win.

Villa came into Wednesday’s fixture after a dreadful 2:1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend.

Emery's side have made another poor start to the EPL season. Villa have collected just one point from their first four league games, scoring once while conceding seven goals.

Still, a strong recent record in this fixture should give VIlla confidence this weekend. The visitors won four of their last five meetings, and four of their last five meetings between these sides in London.

Head coach Emery has several absentees this weekend. Joao Gomes is suspended, while Ian Maatsen, Matty Cash, Amadou Onana, Pau Torres, Leon Goretzka and Brian Madjo are expected to miss out through injury.

Big summer signing Johan Manzambi faces a late fitness test.

Abraham is pushing to lead the attack after his midweek brace, with John McGinn, Ross Barkley and Emiliano Buendia expected to return to the starting lineup.

Prediction

While neither side inspires much confidence, Villa’s strong record in this fixture should not be ignored.

I have my stake on the visitors to at least avoid defeat.
