Real Madrid vs Villarreal prediction 04.10.2025 | La Liga

Last season was a disappointing one for Real Madrid, as they finished without a single trophy. Los Blancos ended as runners-up in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey, falling short to arch-rivals Barcelona on both occasions. This year, under the new head coach, Xabi Alonso, Los Blancos have had an excellent start, winning eight out of nine games across the competitions. To be fair, their only loss (against Atletico Madrid 5:2) was a disaster, but that is only one game. Right now, they are in 2nd place in La Liga with 18 points, just one point behind Barcelona and two points above their next opponent, Villarreal. 

In recent days, coach Xabi Alonso spoke about the loss to Atletico Madrid in the La Liga game before the previous one. He said it was a bad game from his side, but acknowledged it is a positive setback for the future. "We've been too weak in duels and when playing long balls, and we haven't found solutions with the ball. It was a poor performance overall and a deserved defeat," the coach added. After the loss, the team bounced back with a massive 5:0 vs Kairat Almaty in the Champions League.

Last year, Villarreal missed out on Europe after four consecutive years. However, the popular Yellow Submarine did very well in La Liga last year, finishing fifth (on level with fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao). Still, they managed to secure the Champions League from fifth place regardless. While their start in the CL wasn't great, winning one point in the first two games, they were excellent in La Liga, already winning 16 points in the first seven rounds. Interestingly, both Real Madrid and Villarreal suffered defeats only from Atletico Madrid, but are better placed than them. 

After a 2:2 draw with Juventus in the previous game, coach Marcelino spoke to the media. He was pretty satisfied with the team's performances, especially in the first half, while he had some criticism about the second half. Still, the coach said they proved they could compete with anyone, but maybe they lacked some experience or fortune to win against Juventus.
