Recent encounters have been far more competitive. Hibernian won 2-1 at Ibrox in May, while Rangers recorded narrow 1-0 victories in both league meetings earlier in the 2025/26 campaign. Four of the last five meetings have produced under 2.5 goals, highlighting how difficult Hibs have become to break down against the Glasgow giants.
Rangers team overview
Rangers are still adapting to McInnes' tactical approach, and performances have been somewhat inconsistent during the opening weeks of the campaign. After drawing 1-1 with Dundee on the opening weekend, they surrendered an early lead to lose 2-1 against Jagiellonia in Europe after defensive mistakes proved costly.
Connor Barron and José Cifuentes remain unavailable through injury, limiting McInnes' midfield options, although several summer recruits are expected to continue building match fitness.

Hibernian team overview
Hibernian head into Round 2 with even less confidence after suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Motherwell in their opening fixture of the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership season.
The Edinburgh club also enjoyed an excellent record against Rangers last season, taking points from three of the four league meetings, including their impressive victory at Ibrox. That success should provide confidence ahead of another difficult away assignment.
In terms of availability, Nicky Cadden, Jamie McGrath and Rocky Bushiri are all expected to miss out through injury. Nevertheless, Hibernian possess a settled starting XI and are unlikely to make many changes.

Prediction
With four of the last five meetings producing under 2.5 goals and both teams generally adopting cautious approaches in this fixture, another low-scoring contest appears the most likely outcome. BTTS - NO is also a very likely outcome.
Prediction: Both Teams to Score - NO.
Three reasons we expect BTTS - NO
- Several of the most recent league encounters have seen one side fail to score, including 0-0 and 1-0 results from last season.
- If Rangers win, it is easy to envisage a clean sheet. BTTS - NO has landed in three of the last four head-to-head meetings at Ibrox.
- Rangers were not particularly clinical in their league opener. Their 1-1 draw with Dundee United highlighted some attacking inconsistency under Derek McInnes, while Hibernian have generally been well organised defensively against stronger opponents.
