New York City vs Toronto FC prediction 01.08.2026 | MLS

New York City have another solid season. They are not good enough for the best teams in the Eastern Conference, Nashville SC and Inter Miami, but should be a playoff team and could have plenty of success in the postseason. New York City didn't play well before the World Cup break, but since their return, Pascal Jansen's team has collected six points in two matches. In the previous game, they won 3-1 at home against Chicago Fire. The teams were pretty similar throughout the game, and maybe the guests deserved more, but eventually, the hosts' much better efficiency was enough for all three points. 

Since their previous match, New York City signed forward Luighi from Palmeiras. The striker played only 159 minutes in the Brazilian Serie A, but should have more opportunities in MLS. 

New York City have huge injury problems. They will be without Andrew Baiera, Alonso Marinez, Maximiliano Moralez, Aiden O'Neill, Kevin O'Toole, Keaton Parks, Raul Gustavo, and Kai Trewin in the upcoming tie against Toronto FC. 

Toronto FC are among the worst MLS teams in recent years. In the current campaign, Robin Fraser's team still could sneak into the playoffs, but realistically, they are not good enough. Toronto FC have been terrible lately, with 12 consecutive games without a victory. In the most recent outing, Toronto FC lost 2-1 on the road against DC United. Although they lost, the guests were pretty solid that time, and they probably deserved one point. 

Toronto FC are one of the worst defensive teams in MLS and are determined to improve in the current transfer window. A few days ago, they signed defensive midfielder Nikalas Dorsch from Heidenheim. The experienced German last year appeared in 32 Bundesliga games and should be a serious addition for Toronto FC. 

Markus Cimermancic, Nickseon Gomis, Matheus Pereira and Nelson Palacio are unavailable for the upcoming trip to New York due to injuries.
