Real Sociedad begin their 2025–26 Copa del Rey journey with an away clash against lower-tier side SD Negreira at the Estadio Jesus Garcia Calvo this Tuesday.
Negreira team overview
SD Negreira are a lower-league Spanish side who will surely see this clash with LaLiga opposition as a chance to prove themselves, even though they go into it with almost no hope of causing, let alone thinking about, any real upset.
The small Galician club made it through the preliminary rounds of the 2025-26 Copa del Rey, having shown their superiority over SD Textil Escudo across the two legs with a 5-2 aggregate, a result that brought them great celebrations and their first-ever appearance in the main stage of the competition.
Ahead of the Basque club’s visit, the Red-Blues carried a boost of confidence from the weekend league action, where Martin Pereira’s strike just before halftime proved enough to beat SD Pol on the road, helping them maintain their position at the top.
Manager Julian Ferreiro is expected to stick with the same group of players who dismantled Textil Escudo in the Copa del Rey preliminary round return leg, cruising to a 4-0 win inspired by a brace from Brais Lopez.

Real Sociedad team overview
What could serve as a small consolation for the lower-division side is the fact that Real Sociedad are going through one of their weakest starts to a season in recent history, best reflected by their pale La Liga record of just two wins from the opening ten matches.
On the positive side, the Basque club seem to be gradually finding their rhythm and regaining confidence, with things looking brighter since returning from the October international break, first earning a 1-1 draw away at Celta Vigo before confirming their progress with a narrow 2-1 victory over Sevilla at the weekend.
When it comes to the Copa del Rey, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that Txuri-Urdin have huge appetite and ambition in this national competition, something they’ve proven by reaching the final four in each of the past two years, and it’s fair to expect they’ll be aiming for another deep run this time around.
Yangel Herrera and Orri Oskarsson are still the only players unavailable for the Basque side, but Sergio Francisco is likely to make several changes in this cup match to preserve his main stars for upcoming challenges.

Prediction
The only advantage SD Negreira will have is the home-court edge, but it’s unlikely to help them much, even if the LaLiga outfit fields a rotated side, which is highly possible, as coach Francisco doesn’t want to wear out his starters in what is expected to be a one-way affair. That said, there is no denying that the Basque side have struggled to find the net this season, and while they shouldn’t face too many problems against a lower-league opponent, we expect a motivated Negreira to hold firm for at least the first half before Sociedad steps up in the second and takes control to see the job done.
Three Reasons we expect Under 3.5 Goals
- Negreira will try to disrupt a rotating Real Sociedad and keep them out of rhythm for as long as possible.
- Real Sociedad have struggled this season to find a way to score.
- Eight of Real Sociedad’s opening ten LaLiga matches have seen under 3.5 goals.
Main prediction Negreira - Real Sociedad
Under 3.5 goals
