Modern Sport return to Premier League action after suffering a dramatic 3:2 defeat at ZED last week.  Mahmoud Mamdouh gave Modern Sport an early lead, but ZED fought back to lead 2:1 at half-time.

Mamdouh equalised late on before Ahmed Atef scored a stoppage-time winner for ZED.

Before that setback, Amine Benhchem’s men had won four consecutive league fixtures, including victories against Wadi Degla, Asyut Petroleum, National Bank of Egypt and ENPPI.

The hosts now come intoThursday's Premier League contest in fifth position, with 13 points collected from seven league matches. 

Modern Sport have been strong in home fixtures, securing victories in each of three home EPL fixtures this season. 

Head coach Benhchem has no reported injury issues this week.

Al Ahly come into Thursday’s contest in high spirits following a commanding 4:0 home victory against Kitara in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Hussein El Shahat opened the scoring before Mohamed Magdy Afsha doubled the lead shortly before half-time. El Shahat added his second after the interval before Taher Mohamed completed an emphatic win. 

Sunday’s result secured a convincing 6:1 aggregate victory for the EPL giants. 

The visitors were less convincing in their most recent league outing. Hussein Ammouta's team were held to a dramatic 3:3 home draw against El Qanah.

Still, the Red Devils have been in largely excellent form, securing eight wins from their ten most recent fixtures. Al Ahly remain unbeaten in the Egyptian Premier League, collecting 17 points from seven matches with five wins and two draws. 

Particularly strong on the road, Houcine Ammouta’s men picked up a 2:0 win at Zamalek and a thumping 5:0 against Asyut Petroleum in their last two away EPL fixtures. 

Al Ahly have several injury concerns ahead of Thursday's fixture. Achraf Bencharki, Amr El Gazar and Youssef Belammari are expected to remain unavailable.

Mohamed El Shenawy returned against Kitara on Sunday, while Hussein El Shahat and Mohamed Magdy Afsha are pushing for starting places after impressing in the 4:0 victory.
