Lyon return to Groupama Stadium on Saturday evening for a home encounter against Le Havre.

Paulo Fonseca’s side began their domestic campaign with victory at Toulouse before suffering a disappointing Champions League exit against Fenerbahçe on Wednesday.

Le Havre also endured a frustrating start to the Ligue 1 season, slipping to a narrow home defeat against Monaco.

The visitors should provide stubborn opposition, but Lyon will be expected to bounce back to winning form this weekend.

Lyon team overview

Lyon return to Groupama Stadium after suffering a painful 2:1 defeat against Fenerbahçe in Wednesday’s Champions League playoff.

Paulo Fonseca’s side fell two goals down in the first period before Malick Fofana reduced the deficit after the interval. Lyon were unable to find an equaliser and exited the competition in a 3:2 aggregate defeat.

Les Gones made a better start to their domestic campaign with a 2:0 victory at Toulouse last Saturday. Second-half goals from Noah Nartey and Fofana secured the points for Lyon.

Lyon have failed to find much consistency this summer. The hosts won six and lost six of their last 13 matches since mid-May.

High-scoring outcomes have been frequent in Lyon’s competitive fixtures this year. Over 2.5 goals were scored in eight of their last ten matches since the end of last season.

Head coach Fonseca could make changes following Wednesday’s defeat against Fenerbahce. Corentin Tolisso, Tyler Morton and Loïs Openda are among those pushing to return to the starting lineup.

Khalis Merah is expected to remain unavailable with an ankle injury.

Le Havre

Le Havre team overview

Le Havre make the trip to Lyon after beginning their campaign with a narrow 1:0 home defeat against Monaco.

Eric Dier’s early goal proved the difference in a competitive contest at Stade Oceane. Didier Digard’s side  registered 14 attempts, but were unable to find a way past Monaco goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký.

Le Havre have now suffered defects in three of their last four matches, including pre-season losses against Amiens and Ipswich Town.

The away side have struggled to find much winning form since the end of last season. Le Club Doyen won only three of their last 19 matches since mid-March.

Head coach Digard has some injury issues this week. Yanis Zouaoui was forced off during the first half against Monaco and is expected to miss Saturday’s contest with a thigh injury.

Stephan Zagadou and Felix Mambimbi also remain unavailable.

Mbwana Samatta should continue to lead the Le Havre attack.
