- Venue: Anfield
Liverpool host Nottingham Forest in their first home fixture of the new 2026/27 Premier League season. The 20-time Premier League winners began their campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw away to Newcastle, while Forest suffered a 1-0 home defeat to newly promoted Leeds United. Liverpool will therefore be expected to take the initiative on home soil, although their recent meetings with Forest suggest this could be a competitive encounter.

Recent head-to-head meetings have been surprisingly favourable to Forest. They won 1-0 at Anfield in September 2024 and followed that up with a 3-0 victory at Liverpool in November 2025. Liverpool finally ended that difficult run with a narrow 1-0 win at the City Ground in February 2026, courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister's stoppage-time winner.
Liverpool team overview
Liverpool enter the fixture unbeaten in their opening competitive match under Andoni Iraola, having drawn 2-2 at Newcastle. The Reds showed considerable attacking threat but also defensive vulnerability, conceding twice after taking the lead.
The major concern is availability in defence and attack. Hugo Ekitiké is sidelined with an Achilles injury and is not expected back until early January, while Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are also unavailable. Stefan Bajcetic remains doubtful.
Jeremy Jacquet and other new arrivals have also added depth as Iraola attempts to reshape the squad following a fifth-place finish last season.

Nottingham Forest team overview
Forest's opening-day defeat to Leeds was a disappointing start to Oliver Glasner's reign. They failed to score in the opening Premier League fixture of the new season, although their pre-season campaign included encouraging victories over Brest and Bayer Leverkusen.
Glasner is expected to use a 3-4-2-1 system, with Morgan Gibbs-White operating behind the striker and James McAtee providing an additional creative outlet. Forest are still adapting to a new manager after an unsettled 2025/26 campaign that saw four different head coaches.
Ryan Yates is lacking full fitness, while Nicolò Savona is recovering from a knee injury and is not expected back until September. Forest will need a considerably more effective attacking display than against Leeds if they are to take advantage of Liverpool's defensive absences.

Prediction
Liverpool's defensive issues and Forest's recent success in this fixture make this less straightforward than the league positions suggest. Liverpool are likely to dominate possession and create the majority of the chances, although Forest could exploit spaces in transition.
Prediction: Both Teams to Score (BTTS).
Three reasons we expect BTTS
- Although Nottingham Forest are yet to score this season, their recent league record at Anfield has been impressive, with two wins and four goals scored.
- Liverpool have shown some defensive vulnerability, as demonstrated by their performance against Newcastle at the weekend, when they conceded twice in a 2-2 draw.
- BTTS landed in Liverpool's opening game of the season, while the same outcome occurred in 68% of their home matches last season.
