Hungary return to Budapest on Friday evening for an international friendly fixture as they take on an in-form Sweden at the Puskás Aréna.

An improving Sweden makes the trip to Budapest on Friday in what is sure to prove a competitive friendly fixture in Hungary's capital.

The in-form visitors have enjoyed something of a revival in the past year, picking up six wins while losing just one of their last eight internationals since September 2024. 

While the Swedes did slip to a surprise friendly loss against Luxembourg earlier this year, high-scoring wins against Northern Ireland (5:1) and Azerbaijan (6:0) have demonstrated the serious firepower they now possess in the forward areas.

Across their last eight games, Jon Dahl Tomassson's men have scored 23 goals, with the likes of Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga stepping up to the fore. 

Contrastingly, Hungary have endured a difficult spell, with just one win picked up in their last eight international fixtures. Since their elimination at Euro 2024, Marco Rossi's men have slipped to defeat on four occasions, including three of their last four fixtures.

Without a win in their last four games in Budapest, the Magyars will be wary of the threat posed by an improving side looking to return to former glories. 

Sweden also boast a hugely impressive h2h record in this fixture, picking up wins in all but one of their last eight encounters. 

Of course, given the friendly nature of this fixture, it would be unwise to put too much faith in an away win, but I do expect the visitors to return home with at least a draw in the bag.

An away win or draw is my best bet for an intriguing international friendly encounter this weekend.
