Last season, Freiburg were close to securing the Champions League but lost the last game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt and eventually finished fifth - two points away from the desired fourth place. This year, after a bad start to the season and back-to-back losses, Freiburg went on a six-game unbeaten run. They now sit in 8th place with eight points from six rounds - one point away from their next opponent. Additionally, they won four points in the first two EL games. So, it is evident they are on the rise and are in a pretty good momentum right now.

After a goalless draw in the previous game against Borussia M'Gladbach, coach Julian Schuster spoke to the media. He said they had better chances in the second half and were in a position to secure all three points. Still, the coach added that they missed their opportunities and had to make better decisions. 

Eintracht Frankfurt came into this season after one of their best in the Bundesliga, where they finished third and secured the Champions League. There, they won three points in the first two rounds, and in the Bundesliga, they have a totally opposite momentum from Freiburg. The Eagles had a nice start in the Bundesliga but lost three out of the last four and are now in 7th place with nine points from six rounds.

During the international break, Arthur Thetate suffered an injury while playing for the Belgium national team and will most likely be sidelined. He is one of their key players who started in 100% of Eintracht's games this season. Since Nnamdi Collins is already out with an injury, coach Dino Toppmöller will most likely have to start with Robin Koch and Aurele Amenda at the back.
