Bournemouth return to home comforts after suffering a dramatic 2:1 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Marcus Tavernier fired the Cherries into a deserved 26th-minute lead following excellent work from Rayan and Evanilson.

Marco Rose’s side held their advantage until the closing stages, but Marc Guéhi equalised before Joško Gvardiol scored a stoppage-time winner for City. 

Before their painful reversal last weekend, the Cherries had enjoyed a 20-game unbeaten run in competitive fixtures.

Returning to the Vitality this weekend, Saturday’s contest will be Rose’s first competitive home game since replacing Andoni Iraola as Bournemouth head coach. 

The Cherries enjoyed a brilliant 2025/26 campaign, finishing sixth and securing European qualification for the first time in the club’s history.

Rose is unable to call on several players this week. Junior Kroupi, Julián Araujo, Veljko Milosavljević and Amine Adli are expected to remain sidelined, while Ryan Christie is suspended.

David Brooks, Julio Soler and Juanlu Sánchez are rated doubtful and will require late fitness checks.

Rayan, Tavernier and Evanilson should retain their positions in the home attack.

Everton make the trip to Bournemouth in confident mood after beginning their campaign with a 2:0 victory against Crystal Palace.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened the scoring before Thierno Barry secured the points for David Moyes’s side.

The Toffees maintained winning momentum with a dominant 4:0 win at Preston in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. Barry continued his goalscoring form with an impressive hat-trick at Deepdale.

Summer arrivals Hayden Hackney and Tyrique George both impressed against Palace and should retain their places on Saturday.

Christian Nørgaard and Tim Iroegbunam are expected to remain unavailable through injury, while Nathan Patterson is also set to miss out.

In-form forward Thierno Barry will continue to lead the Everton attack, with Iliman Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall and George providing support in the final third.
