Dortmund have made a perfect start, beating Hamburg 2-0, Hoffenheim 3-2, Paderborn 3-0 and Stuttgart 1-0. Their defensive record has been particularly impressive, with only two goals conceded across four matches. The 1-0 win in Stuttgart was enough to move Niko Kovač's side to the top of the Bundesliga table. 

As for the key players, Maximilian Beier has been particularly influential, contributing a goal and two assists in the opening four rounds. Serhou Guirassy has also already found the net, while the depth of Dortmund's attacking options gives them a significant advantage. 

However, BVB have several absentees. Emre Can, Giannis Konstantelias, Justin Lerma and Filippo Mané are ruled out, while Nico Schlotterbeck is unavailable after suffering an ankle injury during the international break. Julian Ryerson is also a fitness concern because of a rib injury.

Werder's opening four matches have produced mixed but encouraging results: a 4-1 defeat at Freiburg was followed by wins over RB Leipzig and Augsburg and a 1-1 draw at Cologne. 

Niclas Füllkrug has been one of the standout performers. The returning striker has scored in four of Werder's five competitive matches and in each of their last three Bundesliga fixtures. 

However, Bremen have significant injury problems. Jens Stage, Justin Njinmah, Keke Topp, Salim Musah and Felix Agu are unavailable, while Senne Lynen, Cedric Itten and Moussa Ndiaye are doubtful. Goalkeeper Karl Hein is also being assessed after leaving Estonia's international camp with a muscular problem.
