  • Competition: Championship
  • Date: Friday, 31st January, 2025
  • Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
  • Venue: Ewood Park (Blackburn)

On Friday evening, Blackburn and Preston will face off in the 30th round of the Championship at Ewood Park in Blackburn.

Blackburn are playing their seventh consecutive season in the Championship. Last season, they had a terrible one, finishing 19th, and considering everyone expected they would battle for the Playoffs, it was a massive failure. This season, the Rovers had an excellent start to the season and spent most of the time in the top six. However, after losing four of the last five in the league, they dropped to seventh place. They are still just two points away from the playoff spots, but their recent results are a big reason for concern.

Preston are playing their tenth consecutive season in the Championship, where they were exclusively a mid-table team. This season, although it is still early, they seemed to be around their usual placement. Right now, they are in 14th place with 37 points. However, they are in good form, and if they continue to play this well, they might move closer to the playoff spots. Right now, they're only seven points away from it.

Blackburn vs Preston pick: Preston to win or draw

Blackburn are in terrible form. They lost three in a row against Bristol City, Coventry, and Oxford Utd with only one goal scored. If we look further back, we can see they only won twice in the last ten games in all competitions!

On the other hand, Preston are playing well. They won back-to-back games against Middlesbrough and Watford and have also lost just twice in the last 15 games - by 13%.

In recent h2h games, Preston were a lot better! In the last five, we saw two draws and three wins for Preston.

Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and the massive difference in form, we strongly believe that Preston can secure a positive result against Blackburn.

Blackburn team news

During the winter transfer window, the club added midfielder Adam Forshaw from Plymouth and left full-back Dion Sanderson on a loan deal from Birmingham. Both found their spots in the starting eleven, but their performances were subpar, and we cannot call them an upgrade, at least for now.

Hayden Carter, Yuki Ohashi, Harry Pickering, Arnor Sigurdsson, Sondre Tronstad, and Scott Wharton, who missed the previous games with injuries, should remain sidelined.

Preston team news

During the winter transfer window, the club added central defender Lewis Gibson from Plymouth for 1.8 million euros and left full-back/wing-back Jayden Meghoma on a loan deal from Brentford. Both players instantly became members of the first eleven and did very well in those games, especially Gibson.

When it comes to injuries, coach Hekingbottom should have almost the entire squad available. Only Josh Seary should remain sidelined, but he hasn't been a vital part of the team so far.
