However, this could be their year! The popular Knights of Najd are on an incredible winning streak and are sitting in the top spot with a five-point advantage over 2nd-placed Al Hilal. However, after the Al Ettifaq game, they will face Al Ahli SC, Al Qadsiah, and Al Hilal in the domestic league. That three-game stretch will pretty much decide the outcome of the season. Because of that tough remaining schedule, it is important to continue winning and secure their 17th win in a row across competitions. 

Besides their success in the domestic league, Al Nassr could also win the AFC Champions League 2, where they reached the Quarter-finals and will face Al Wasl there. 

Al Ettifaq have finished 6th and 7th in the past three seasons and are around the same spot this season. After 28 rounds, they are in 7th place with 42 points, averaging almost the same points per game as the previous two years. Simply, it seems they are not good enough to compete for the top three or four spots and eventually secure the AFC Champions League. The main reason Al Ettifaq aren't higher in the league table this season is their atrocious road record, especially in recent matches. 

After a 3:2 loss to Al Riyadh, coach Saad Al-Shehri spoke to the media. He was disappointed with the result, saying they lost focus in the key moments, especially late in the game. He noted the opposing team punished their mistakes and were generally more clinical. The coach emphasized their need to learn from these mistakes and improve on the defensive end.
