The first Triple Crown event of the season kicks off on Saturday at the York Barbican. Judd Trump, still without a title in the 2025/26 season, will try to become the first player to win the UK Championship twice in a row since Ronnie O'Sullivan did it in 2018.

In this article, MightyTips examines the top contenders and their form this season, analyse their odds on winning the UK Championship and some other betting markets available, before predicting the outcome and providing a couple more options for value long-term betting.

Favourites to win UK Championship 2025

We'll talk about each of the top seven contenders below, analysing their form throughout the season and the chances of winning the whole tournament given the draw.

Judd Trump

Trump, still without a title in 2025/26, leads the world rankings. However, he is outside the top 10 in the one-year list. Yes, there were finals of the Northern Ireland Open and non-ranking Champion of Champions, but so were defeats from Matthew Stevens and Elliot Slessor. With all respect to these two, in-form Trump would never lose such matches. We have 11 different winners after 11 tournaments, so this might be the one for Judd, and he has a very favourable draw until the quarterfinals, starting with the match against Stephen Maguire on Saturday.

Zhao Xintong

The defending world champion had a nightmare start to the season, as he couldn't even reach the quarterfinal stage in the first six tournaments. Three semifinals followed, and in the second decade of November, Zhao triumphed at the non-ranking Riyadh Season Snooker Championship. He won an astonishing £250,000 by successfully defeating Murphy, Trump, and Robertson. The talent is there, and the Chinese player has already won the UK Championship in 2021.

Ronnie O'Sullivan

Ronnie is the most celebrated player in the UK Championship history with eight titles to his name. We understand that many snooker fans will hate us for this statement, but still, the Rocket is past his prime. He is nowhere near as dedicated as he once used to be, skipping one tournament after another. We won't doubt his genius, and, obviously, O'Sullivan can beat anyone when in a good mood. But there's no way he'll be the champion in 2025, and it all might end in the round of 16 after a potential clash with Mark Selby.

Kyren Wilson

The Warrior is another player with a very poor season, even though he still holds the second spot in the WST rankings. He is 18th in the one-year list, a place behind Trump. Wilson won the non-ranking Shanghai Masters in August, but his best at ranking events this season are two quarterfinals, accompanied by three losses in the first round. Wilson never won the UK Championship, and he is in the bottom half of the draw, much stronger than the top half. We'll eat our hats if he somehow prevails.

Mark Selby

Selby won the Champion of Champions in the middle of November, demolishing Trump in the deciding match. The Jester from Leicester has had a mixed season so far, with semifinals at the English Open and the British Open. The way the draw looks, his biggest obstacle on the way to the semis is Ronnie in the second round. Selby's snooker brain is second to none, his safety is amazing, and he is also one of the best frontrunners in the game. He is a clear contender for the title, in our humble opinion.

Shaun Murphy

The Magician was unstoppable at the end of September and beginning of October, as he won the British Open and reached the final at the Xi'an Grand Prix. His form has dropped slightly since, but he remains one of the best break builders in the game with amazing long pots as the strongest weapon. The problem here is that he is in the same quarter as in-form John Higgins, Zhao Xintong, and Gary Wilson. Definitely a contender, his path to the final just looks too steep for us.

Neil Robertson

Robbo is another tremendous long potter, and he is in the top half of the draw, which makes his chances slightly higher. The champion of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters is in amazing form, as he won the exhibition Crucible Cup this week by defeating Selby and Higgins. Now it's time to shine on the real stage, as Mark Williams and Judd Trump look like the biggest hurdles on the way to the final. The Australian is 20 centuries away from reaching a thousand, and that fact speaks for itself.

UK Championship winner prediction and long-term betting tips

After analysing the draw, the odds, and the form of the players, Neil Robertson seems like the most valuable choice. Our other option would be Mark Selby, but his half of the draw just seems way harder. Hence, we tip Robertson to triumph in York at 9.00.

Most bookies allow betting on the winner of each quarter, in other words, to reach the semifinals. Trump looks like the most likely winner of the 1st quarter, but we see no value in betting him at 2.37. Betting Neil Robertson to win the 2nd quarter at 2.50 looks much more interesting, especially since we tip him to become the champion.

Last but not least, we'll go with Mark Selby winning the 3rd quarter. As we said before, Ronnie O'Sullivan is his hardest potential opponent on the way to the semis. Yet the latter got arguably the toughest draw among all seeded players in Zhou Yuelong. We believe the odds of 3.25 are worth the risk here. Zhao Xintong looks the likely winner of the 4th quarter, but betting that at 2.25 just doesn't look like a valuable choice.

I’ve been a keen sports fan since childhood, and the World Cup 1994 in the United States is probably the first big competition I remember in detail. Who can forget a five-goal match by Oleg Salenko that didn't mean a thing?! I’ve worked in UEFA for 15 years, so I no longer watch football nowadays. My favourite sports are American football, baseball, darts, and snooker, and I know everything about the UFC.
