Valentina Shevchenko and Zhang Weili will clash on November 15 at Madison Square Garden in the co-main event of UFC 322. After the win over Tatiana Suarez, Weili vacated her strawweight title to step up and challenge Shevchenko for the women's flyweight belt. Both fighters bring elite striking and championship experience, making it an exciting matchup. In this Shevchenko vs Weili prediction, we at MightyTips analyse the odds and fighting styles and give our prediction for the outcome.

Shevchenko holds a slight advantage in height and reach, standing an inch taller with a 3.5-inch reach edge. Weili, however, often compensates for such gaps with her versatile switch stance, which allows her to close range effectively.

Shevchenko had a nine-fight winning streak before facing Alexa Grasso. The two went on to fight three times in a row, ending with a loss, a draw, and finally a win for Shevchenko, when she reclaimed her title. She fought only once after that, meaning she's faced just two different opponents in the past three years. Her recent training camps largely revolved around preparing for the same style, which could become an obstacle heading into the fight against Weili.
Nevertheless, Shevchenko is a battle-hardened fighter with lots of experience. She blends elite-level Muay Thai with Judo fundamentals, which helps her dictate where and how a fight will go. One thing to notice here is that Shevchenko is a low-volume striker who relies on counterattacks. She throws perfectly-timed check hooks, but rarely continues with a combination, because she's overly cautious. That's why a big portion of her fights were won by decision. However, on the ground, she transitions very smoothly from control to submission threats, showing top pressure.

Weili has evolved into a well-rounded fighter with dangerous wrestling and strong takedown defence. We saw it on full display in her last fight against Tatiana Suarez, where she stuffed 14 of 15 takedown attempts and landed 232 strikes. At UFC 300, Zhang completely shut down Yan Xiaonan with over 10 minutes of control time. She's extremely powerful physically. Weili can bully opponents in the clinch and hold her own on the mat.
Now, Zhang is moving up to the flyweight division. It is something she's wanted to do for some time, given the lack of fresh competition at strawweight. The difference in weight is minimal, which leaves her natural power and conditioning unaffected. Weili's offence is built around constant pressure and high-volume combinations. However, her aggressive approach sometimes leaves her open to counters, particularly when facing patient, technical strikers like Shevchenko.

This matchup feels as close as it gets. Weili's recent fights showcased dominant ground control and relentless pace, but replicating that against Valentina Shevchenko will be a far greater challenge. We expect Zhang to push forward early, applying pressure to close the distance and test Shevchenko's balance in the clinch. Both are durable, disciplined fighters, so a five-round war seems highly likely. Still, with her momentum and hunger for making a statement, we at MightyTips predict Zhang Weili to win at 2.00.
