Wycombe vs Stevenage prediction 07.08.2026 | EFL Cup

Wycombe ended in the League One top half in the last five consecutive seasons. The team from Adams Park made some changes this summer, but they should be good enough for another mid-table campaign. During preseason, Wycombe had three wins and three defeats. In the most recent test, they lost 2-1 against Ipswich. Wycombe were excellent offensively in most friendly games, but it seems that the defense needs an upgrade, and that is something the board should focus on in the rest of the transfer window. 

Most important players from last season remained at Wycombe. On the other hand, they added a few interesting players. We should single out right winger Silko Thomas, who had 17 appearances for Leicester last season. Also, Wycombe signed Conor Hazard (from Plymouth), Steve Cook (QPR), and Matt Macey (Colchester). 

Last season, Stevenage was unexpectedly excellent. They had the best year since returning to League One with sixth, but in the playoffs, Stevenage couldn't keep up with Stockport. Alex Revell's team is hoping to have a similar 2026/27 campaign, but mid-table seems much more realistic. Stevenage had only four preseason matches and won two of them. In the last test, they won 1-0 against Colchester. Revell's team scored only two goals in four friendlies this summer and will have to work on that.

The big reason for last season's success was brilliant Harvey White, who had four goals and seven assists in 44 League One matches. The reliable defensive midfielder left the team for Plymouth. His replacement should be Terry Taylor, who came from Charlton. Stevenage also signed Josh Magennis (from Exeter), Oliver Sanderson (Fulham U21), and Terence Vancooten (Burton).
