Wrexham team overview

Wrexham secured their first ever promotion to the Championship last season by finishing second in Football League One. The Reds have not been able to live up to expectations in the second division with the team currently sitting in 15th place and with just two wins from eight matches.

Phil Parkinson’s men have already suffered three defeats, but they will be motivated by the fact that none of those defeats occurred in the last four matches. Having picked up two wins in that spell, they will fancy their chances of a win against Birmingham this week.

Andy Cannon (cruciate ligament), Jay Rodríguez (ankle) and George Thomason (thigh) will be unavailable for the hosts on Friday due to injury.

Birmingham City team overview

Like their hosts, Birmingham City were in the Football League One division last season, but they secured their promotion in excellent fashion by not only winning it, but also breaking the 110-point barrier.

The Brummies have not been able to replicate their form from last season in the Championship, already suffering the same number of defeats (three) as in the entire 2025–26 campaign.

Chris Davies' side were last in action on Tuesday as they hosted Sheffield United for their eighth Championship game of the season. Their poor defensive performance was once again the main topic of discussion with the team drawing 2–2 despite taking the lead after only nine minutes.

Jack Robinson has returned from his one-match suspension and is available for selection, but Ethan Laird remains unavailable for Birmingham City after sustaining a hamstring injury last weekend.

Prediction

Friday’s clash could be a tough match for Birmingham City, as Wrexham have been difficult to beat recently. While it would not be surprising to see the hosts walk off the pitch with all three points, or even one, I believe that the Blues have enough quality to secure a win in a game that could see both sides score.

Three reasons we expect both teams to score in this game

  1. Wrexham have kept just two clean sheets in their 11 competitive games this season.
  2. Birmingham City failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last ten matches.
  3. Both teams scored in each of the last two meetings between Wrexham and Birmingham.
