Waterford are the Premier Division lower part of the table team for most of the 2025 season. For most of the year, they were at a safe distance from the drop zone, but after the last few disappointing weeks, Sligo Rovers, the team that is currently in the relegation playoff position, closed the gap with Waterford to seven points. Waterford won only six points in the last eight matches. In the previous game, they lost 7-2 on the road against Derry City. That performance was a complete letdown, as the opponent scored seven goals on xG of 1.25.
Cork City are terrible this season. They collected only 15 points in the first 23 matches and will need a Herculean effort in the rest of 2025 to avoid relegation. Cork City have not had a victory in the last 13 matches. In the previous game, they lost 3-1 on the road against Shelbourne. The home side finished the match with an xG of 67% ball possession and ten shots on goal more than Cork City, so it is no wonder Cork City suffered another defeat.
Waterford vs Cork City pick: Over 2.5 goals
Waterford scored 11 goals in the last four matches. On the other hand, Cork City allowed eight goals in the same span. Both teams are struggling in defense, so we should expect a goal-fest on Friday night in Waterford.

Waterford team news
Waterford's head coach, Josh Coleman, apologized to the fans after a humiliating defeat against Derry City. He also said, "You have to take your hat off to Derry; they were very, very good. You get to games when it's 4-0, and the other team sort of ambles through the second half, but they didn't; they were like rabid dogs. It was men against boys. We've got to find a response for next week, or we can go into our shells and go into a relegation scrap."
Kacper Radkowski and Matthew Smith are injured and will not play in the upcoming clash against Cork City.

Cork City team news
After another defeat, this time against Shelbourne, Cork City's head coach, Gerard Nash, pointed out a poor start to the game and two goals for the opponents in the first six minutes as completely unacceptable. Cork City have to do much better to have any chance of surviving in the Premier Division.
Charlie Lyons got a red card in the previous round, and he will not play on Friday in Waterford. He will join already sidelined Benny Couto, Conor Drinan, and Ruairi Keating.
