Ukraine are coming to this match after beating Iceland 5:3, while Azerbaijan lost 3:0 against France in France.

Friendly International
These teams met in this qualifying cycle in September in Azerbaijan. That time, we saw a 1:1 draw, but objectively, Ukrainians were a lot better and deserved to win all three points.
Before that game, these teams had only met twice (in 2006) in friendly matches. At home, Ukraine won 6:0, while we saw a goalless draw in Azerbaijan.
Ukraine team overview
Ukraine's only World Cup appearance as a sovereign country was in 2006 when they reached the quarter-finals. In the last WC Qualifiers, they were super close as they reached the finals in the Playoffs but lost to Wales. When it comes to the EURO Qualifiers, we saw a different story as they appeared in the last four tournaments.
In these World Cup Qualifiers, Ukraine are in a good position as they sit in 2nd place with four points - behind France and above Iceland and Azerbaijan. It is unreal to expect any team from this group to catch up with France and Ukraine, who are aiming to secure that second place and advance to the playoffs.
In the previous game against Iceland, one of the team's best players, Georgiy Sudakov, suffered an injury and had to leave the field after 39 minutes.

Azerbaijan team overview
Azerbaijan are #124 on the FIFA World Ranking List, and #44 out of 55 teams in Europe. They have never reached any of the major tournaments, and that will hardly change any time soon. Still, even though they are in last place in the group at the moment with one point in three rounds, they can quickly climb up with a potential win vs Ukraine. Still, that will be a massive challenge for Azerbaijan.
In the last game against France, midfielder Abdulakh Khaybulaev suffered an injury and had to leave around ten minutes before the end of the match. For now, there isn't an official statement about the seriousness of the injury, but the 24-year-old will most likely miss the upcoming match vs Ukraine.

Prediction
Ukraine have shown a lot more in these Qualifiers. The difference in quality was obvious in their h2h games when the match ended as a 1:1 draw. Still, Ukraine were a lot better and we expect Azerbaijan to play a lot worse on a neutral pitch. However, the difference between these two teams is probably best shown through their matches against France. While Ukraine was competitive and showed they are not too far away, Azerbaijan were completely outplayed vs France as they only had 0.04 xG, 23% ball possession, and one total shot (zero on goal).
Also, most of Azerbaijan's good games happened at home. On the road, they won just one point in the last eight games against mixed competition. Yes, this game will be played on a neutral pitch, but that is still an advantage for Ukraine.
Considering all the above, we expect Ukraine to win and cover the -1.5 AH spread in this World Cup tie.
3 Reasons why Ukraine should win and cover the -1.5 AH spread
- Ukraine won four points, while Azerbaijan won just one point thus far
- Azerbaijan won one point in the last eight road games
- Ukraine's total market value is around 292 million euros, while Azerbaijan's TM value is around 18 million
