Stuttgart were only a mid-table Bundesliga team last season, but they won the trophy in the DFB Pokal and secured a place in the Europa League. Sebastian Hoeness' team expects to return among the best four teams in Germany, but the start of the season is not completely encouraging. Stuttgart opened the Bundesliga with six points in the four matches and surely needs to do better to fulfill their goals. In the previous game, Hoeness' team won 2-0 at home against St. Pauli. The home side doubled the opponent's xG, so Stuttgart's victory was well-deserved.

Last season was one of the best for Celta Vigo in the 21st century as they ended seventh on the table. Claudio Giraldez's team hoped for a similar 2025/26 campaign, but they collected only five points in six La Liga matches. The season began with a defeat against Getafe, followed by a run of five consecutive draws. In the previous game, Giraldez's team played 1-1 on the road against Rayo Vallecano. The home side was slightly better, but the guests found a way to another draw.

After nine seasons without European competitions, Celta will return to the Europa League. The head coach, Claudio Giraldez, talked a few days ago about their opponent in the opening round, Stuttgart. He said, "They have a very competitive and complete squad. I hope we can get off to a good start, and above all, what worries me most is that we show our identity, being brave and taking the ball. This is the Celta I want to see, and the results will come."

Celta Vigo will be without Williot Swedberg, Franco Cervi, Marcos Alonso, and Joseph Aidoo on Thursday in Stuttgart. Also, Mihailo Ristic is questionable.
