- Venue: Tallaght Stadium
Shamrock Rovers will be looking to secure a win that would bring them closer to their fourth league title in five seasons when they play host to Shelbourne this week. Seventeen points currently separate the two sides in the standings, and the hosts will be looking to extend their lead over second-placed Derry City to 12 points. Shamrock Rovers are favourites according to the bookies, but can Shelbourne cause an upset after avoiding defeat in their last two games? We will discuss this in our preview.

The two Irish sides have faced each other eight times since 2024, all of which were Premier Division fixtures. The results of these fixtures are fairly balanced, with each side boasting two wins and four games ending in a draw. The average number of goals per game was two.
Shamrock Rovers team overview
Following their disappointing 4-1 defeat to Sparta Praha in the Europa League group stage earlier this month, Shamrock Rovers were under pressure to deliver a strong performance when they hosted Kerry in the FAI Cup semi-final last Sunday.
Stephen Bradley’s side were terrific from start to finish, scoring four times in the first 45 minutes before adding two more in the second half to secure a formidable 6-1 victory.
The Hoops have now won six of their last seven home matches and will be confident of picking up another win against Shebourne this week. However, they will not want to be reminded of their recent record of one win from their last four league meetings with the Reds at this ground.
A booking for Josh Honohan, Dan Cleary or Cory O'Sullivan this week will result in a one-match ban, but the hosts have no injury concerns.

Shelbourne team overview
Meanwhile, Shelbourne have lost only one of their last seven games across all competitions. They picked up four wins in that period, two of which were in the Premier Division.
The only defeat in this run came away from home, and the Reds currently have a poor away record. With three defeats in their last four games away from the Tallaght Stadium and five consecutive winless games against Shamrock Rovers, Friday's game is expected to be another difficult one.
Conor Kearns has missed the last 16 games due to a hamstring injury, and Friday’s game will come too soon for the goalkeeper, as well as left-back Tyreke Wilson, who is dealing with a muscle problem.

Prediction
Shelbourne have what it takes to win Friday’s game, but their recent record against Shamrock Rovers and their current away form aren't great. The hosts are unbeaten in their last 18 home games at this ground and I think they will extend this record in a low-scoring draw.
Three reasons we expect under 2.5 goals in this game
- Four of the last seven league games of Shamrock Rovers ended with under 2.5 goals.
- Bets on under 2.5 goals won in four of the last six games of Shelbourne.
- Only one of the last 5 meetings between Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne produced more than two goals.
Main prediction Shamrock Rovers - Shelbourne
Under 2.5 goals
