Leipzig arrived in Berlin last week hoping to tick off a third straight win, something Ole Werner’s side have managed twice already this season.

Instead, old habits on the road crept back in. Even after pulling level midway through the second half, Die Roten Bullen lost 3-1, and the frustration was visible at full time.

At home, though, Leipzig feel like a different team entirely this season. Seven games at the Red Bull Arena have brought seven wins, and that kind of record carries weight, especially under the floodlights.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side have now lost just twice in their last nine games across all competitions, and the list of away results stands out.

Wins at Benfica and Manchester City in Europe, plus victories over Dortmund in the Pokal and Wolfsburg in the league, hint at a team comfortable travelling.

There are, however, a few complications. Alejandro Grimaldo, Leverkusen’s top scorer this season with nine goals, picked up a knock and remains a doubt, which matters given how much of their threat flows down the left.

Jarell Quansah misses out through suspension, while Exequiel Palacios and Lucas Vázquez remain sidelined.

On top of that, Edmond Tapsoba, Eliesse Ben Seghir, Ibrahim Maza and Christian Kofane have all left for AFCON, thinning the squad at an awkward time.
