Preston keep chasing the dream of reaching the Premier League for the first time, and this campaign feels as close as they have come in years.

They have stayed in the Championship since climbing up from League One in 2015 and have only flirted with the top spots a handful of times, most notably seven years ago when they finished seventh.

Things look far more promising now, with Paul Heckingbottom’s side sitting fourth on twenty-six points after fifteen matches and only three points off the automatic spots.

They remain unbeaten in four outings, and Deepdale has been kind to them lately with three wins in their last four at home.

Robbie Brady and Will Keane continue to struggle with calf problems, so Friday likely comes too soon for them. Jordan Thompson and Josh Seary also remain out while they recover from ankle and knee issues.

Blackburn head into their eighth consecutive year in the Championship in a somewhat paradoxical atmosphere at Ewood Park. Rovers enjoyed two promising seasons in 2022–23 and last year when they ended the season seventh, which of course raised expectations.

Those hopes have been dented though, with this year’s beginning marred by inconsistency and the side now closer to a relegation scrap than Championship's top six. You should not be too quick to dismiss them, however.

The Blue and Whites have won three of the last four, two of them on their travels, so it looks like they might finally have hit form.

They have good recent head to heads against Preston too, unbeaten in the last three meetings. Taylor Gardner-Hickman should be wary of earning his next yellow card, as it will earn him a match suspension and Moussa Baradji is still out with a foot injury.
