Interestingly, Portugal has never suffered a defeat against Hungary in their history, with the two sides meeting 15 times so far, four of which ended in a draw, while the remaining 11 encounters went in favor of the Selecao.
Portugal team overview
The Portuguese have shown their authority and strength, leaving them just one step away from securing their eighth consecutive World Cup final appearance after taking maximum points from their opening three qualifying matches.
Selecao das Quinas, however, were unexpectedly put to the test in their first October qualifier, having to dig deep to secure all three points thanks to Ruben Neves’ 91st-minute winner, after CR7 had earlier missed a penalty.
All in all, that was the sixth straight victory for Roberto Martinez’s men across all competitions – a run that includes their UEFA Nations League triumph in June after a penalty shootout win over Spain – and they will now look to keep that winning momentum going as they aim to become one of the first European nations to secure their World Cup spot.
Joao Cancelo and Joao Neves will miss both October qualifiers due to recent club-level injuries, while AC Milan star Rafael Leao could step in for Pedro Neto to add more sharpness to the attack.

Hungary team overview
In the meantime, Hungary climbed to second in Group F thanks to second-half goals from Daniel Lukacs and Zsombor Gruber, edging past Armenia 2-0 and finally recording their first World Cup qualifying win after a slow start with just one point from two matches.
With that comfortable battering, Nemzeti Tizenegy finally snapped their gloomy run of six straight matches without a win in competitive action, but the chances of securing back-to-back victories remain slim, especially considering they have managed to celebrate just three times in their last 11 trips.
The double World Cup runners-up — though those achievements date back to 1938 and 1954 — will need to raise their level in the remaining trio of qualifying matches if they are to finally put an end to their four-decade-long absence from the world’s biggest stage.
Ahead of their trip to Lisbon to face Portugal, Hungary will be boosted by the return of veteran striker Barnabas Varga, who has served his one-match suspension against Armenia and is now available for selection.

Prediction
CR7 and co. enter the fourth matchweek of the World Cup qualifiers as clear favorites, and they should have little trouble securing maximum points against their regular opponents, Hungary. However, the Nemzeti Tizenegy will do everything possible to disrupt Portugal's rhythm and keep them away from goal, and we expect them to succeed for the majority of the match, which could make this encounter far less eventful than the first, which saw an impressive five goals.
Three Reasons we expect Under 3.5 Goals
- Portugal barely broke through Ireland’s defensive wall with a last-gasp winner.
- Each of Portugal’s last three home victories over Hungary ended with a 3-0 scoreline.
- In three of their last seven competitive away matches, Hungary failed to find the net.
Main prediction Portugal - Hungary
Under 3.5 goals
