  • Competition: Champions League qualifications
  • Date: Tuesday, 22nd July 2025
  • Kickoff: 18:00 UK / 19:00 CEST
  • Venue: Alphamega Stadium (Kolossi)

After the last few years, during which it was clear that Pafos were emerging as one of the top clubs in Cyprus, they finally won their first championship title in the 2024/25 season. Last year, Pafos made its debut in European competitions, while this season, they will compete for the first time in the Champions League qualifications. This summer, Pafos had three friendly matches in which they had one victory and two draws. In the previous game, they played 1-1 against Orlando Pirates. In all three matches, Pafos showed a good level in defense, and that is something their game will be based on, at least at the start of the season.

Last season, Maccabi Tel Aviv won their 26th Israeli championship trophy. In the last few years, Maccabi Tel Aviv have failed to qualify for the Champions League group phase, but they have regularly participated in other European competitions. During this summer, Maccabi Tel Aviv had only two matches. In the first, they lost 2-1 in the Super Cup final against Hapoel Beer Sheva. After that, Zarko Lazetic's team won 2-1 in a friendly against Hapoel Ironi Rishon. In either of the two games, Maccabi Tel Aviv didn't impress.

Pafos vs Maccabi Tel Aviv pick: Pafos to win

Neither team is at the top of their form at the moment. However, Pafos are looking slightly better, so they should win on Tuesday night at Alphamega Stadium in Kolossi.

Pafos team news

Pafos changed a few important players this summer. The biggest challenge could be the departure of goalkeeper Ivica Ivusic, who went to Hajduk Split. Pafos still haven't signed any goalkeepers, so experienced Neofytos Michail should get a chance on Tuesday. Pafos made a few interesting signings this summer, like Jaja (who came from Athletico PR), Anderson Silva (Alanyaspor), and Bruno Langa (Almeria).
