Olympiacos vs Pafos prediction 17.09.2025 | Champions League

Last season, Olympiacos won its 48th national league title. They were dominant the whole year and ended with an enormous 16 points more than their biggest rival, Panathinaikos. Olympiacos had a few very successful appearances in the Champions League in the 21st century when they progressed to the knockout phase. Repeating that would be an excellent achievement for Jose Luis Mendilibar's team. 

Olympiacos were outstanding in the opening three games of the season, in which they secured three victories. In the previous match, they crushed Panserraikos 5-0 at home. Although the visitors managed to keep the scoreline level until halftime, Olympiacos exploded in the second half, netting five goals to seal a dominant victory. The result is a major confidence boost ahead of their upcoming clash with Pafos.

Under Jose Luis Mendilibar, Olympiacos usually play a vertical style of football with fast counter-attacks, rather than possession-based football. However, they are clearly a much better team than Pafos and should play with a little more ball at their feet. 

Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis is suspended and will not play against Pafos on Wednesday evening. 36-year-old Alexandros Paschalakis should start instead of him. Also, Olympiacos will be without injured Roman Yaremchuk. 

Last season, Pafos won its first title in the club's history. The team from Cyprus continued with good results in the Champions League qualifications, where they beat Maccabi Tel Aviv, Dynamo Kyiv, and Crvena Zvezda for their debut appearance in the most elite football competition. Pafos dream about another achievement and knockout phase, but that is probably too much for them right now. 

Pafos have slowed down in form lately, as they have won only one of the last three matches. In the previous game, Pafos lost 1-0 at home against Apollon. The home side was the favorite to win in that match, but the guests were better and secured a well-deserved victory. 

The main strength of Pafos is that they are extremely well organized by another Spaniard, head coach Juan Carlos Carcedo. They are very adaptable, but will likely try to capitalize on fast counter-attacks.

Pafos should have all players available for the upcoming tie in Piraeus.
