Premier League
In the previous season, these teams met twice in the Championship, with both meetings ending in draws (1:1 and 4:4). Looking further back, in the past decade, these teams met ten times. Norwich won twice, while Southampton secured five victories.
When it comes to the number of goals, five out of ten ended with fewer than three goals, and in five of them, we saw both teams scoring.
Norwich team overview
Norwich have been a team that often travelled between the Premier League and the Championship in the last decade and a half. However, for the previous three seasons, since they were relegated in 2021/22, the Canaries weren't even close to going up. Last season, they finished 13th, not even close to the Playoffs!
This year, despite a good start in the EFL Cup, the Canaries won only three points in the first three rounds of the Championship. Even though it is still early, this poor start raises some concerns.
An additional problem for Nowich is the injury to Jack Stacey. The 29-year-old defender started in all three Championship games this season, and his absence will be a factor. He suffered an injury in the previous match vs Middlesbrough and had to leave the field after 52 minutes.

Southampton team overview
Southampton have moved between the Championship and the Premier League in the last few seasons and are among the favorites to return to the English top-flight division. However, after a good start and four points in the first two rounds, the Saints suffered a troubling 2:1 home defeat to a ten-man Stoke. Right now, they sit in 10th place in the Championship.
In the previous game vs Stoke, a starting left full-back/wing-back, Welington, suffered an injury and had to leave the field after only 21 minutes. He will most likely miss the EFL Cup match.

Prediction
Norwich have been absolutely great for this type of bet, considering that both teams scored in all four of their games this season across the competitions. Last year, they were absolutely amazing offensively, scoring 71 goals in the league, which was the second most in the league! But their defense was among the worst in the league. Therefore, a BTTS in the first four games this season is not a surprise at all.
Meanwhile, we saw both teams scoring in three out of four Southampton games (75%). They scored at least a goal in all of their matches, and in some of them looked absolutely amazing offensively. In the season's opener vs Wrexham, they had an impressive 4.14 xG! So, we believe the Saints should score at least once in this match as well.
Last season, both teams scored in both h2h matches. Considering all the above, we expect an exciting game with both teams scoring at least once.
3 Reasons why we should see both teams scoring
- Both teams scored in all four of Norwich's games
- Southampton scored in all four games thus far
- The last two h2h games finished with both teams scoring
