Norway will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Group I this weekend, when they welcome Israel to Oslo. The two teams are separated by one place and six points after five games each. Norway are the clear favourites, but the visitors will be feeling confident after their performance against Italy last month. WC Qualification Europe
The last time these two nations met was in March this year, in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Norway dominated the match, scoring four goals to win 4:2 at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Hungary.
Norway team overview
Since being soundly beaten 5:1 by Austria in the Nations League group stage back in October, Norway have been a completely different side. Erling Haaland and Co are currently on an eight-match winning streak, a run that has seen them scored 34 goals and conceded just 4.
Five of those games were FIFA World Cup qualifiers and have propelled the team to the top of Group I. With a six-point lead over second-placed Italy, victory for Ståle Solbakken’s team this weekend would significantly enhance their chances of automatic qualification.
Erling Haaland scored 5 goals the last time he played for the national team and has been in fine form in the Premier League this season. The Manchester City forward is expected to lead the line for the hosts alongside Alexander Sørloth and Nusa. The absence of Arsenal playmaker Martin Ødegaard through injury will be a huge blow for Norway.

Israel team overview
Israel had a pretty good international break in September, even though they lost their last game 5:4 to Italy. Before that clash, the Sky Blue and Whites scored four goals without conceding against Moldova, and the fighting spirit they displayed against Italy will motivate them ahead of their trip to Norway this week.
Dor Peretz scored twice last time, taking his tally for the national team to 9, and the Israeli Premier League midfielder is set to start in the engine room this weekend.
Dan Biton has scored eight times in just six games for Beer Sheva this season and will likely start up front, possibly alongside Manor Solomon and Anan Khalaili.

Prediction
Everything is in Norway's favour ahead of Saturday's game. The Norwegians have won each of their last eight games, including a 4-2 victory over Israel the last time the two sides met, and they also have the home advantage. The visitors have already shown they can score, having found the net in all five of their Group I World Cup qualifiers so far, and I expect that run to continue this weekend in a game that could end in a 3-1 defeat.
Three reasons we expect at least three goals in this game
- All the last 13 World Cup Qualifying games of Israel produced over 2.5 goals.
- Nine of the last 10 games of Norway ended with three or more goals.
- The previous meeting between the two nations in this group produced six goals.
Main prediction Norway - Israel
Over 2.5 goals
