Kazakhstan were on a run of four defeats in a row until Friday, when they won 4-0 at home against Liechtenstein.

Kazakhstan's head coach, Talgut Baysufinov, was very satisfied after a big victory against Liechtenstein. However, he was realistic that a much harder game would be on Monday in Skopje. Baysufinov said, "Of course, we scored four goals, and we can say we accomplished much of what we planned. There's still a lot of work ahead: this evening we'll review the footage, analyze it, and begin preparing for the game against Macedonia. I want to say that our guys liked what we gave them—and the fans can see that. The players understood everything, controlled the ball, and played well in combinations, but there's still a lot of work ahead."
