- Competition: World Cup 2026 qualifiers
- Date: 04/09/2025
- KO: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CEST
- Venue: De Kuip, Rotterdam
A vital World Cup qualifier is set for the De Kuip in Rotterdam this week as Netherlands look to extend their perfect start to the qualification campaign against Poland.
The Dutch come into this fixture as short-priced odds-on favourites to claim the points, but can expect a decent test from a Polish side buoyed by the recall of experienced skipper Robert Lewandowski.
Previous encounters have favoured the Dutch, but a competitive and entertaining encounter is expected in Rotterdam this week.

Friendly International
Netherlands and Poland have met on six occasions since 2016. Netherland won five of those games, including a 2:1 win at Euro 2024 last summer.
Netherlands team overview
Netherlands come into Thursday's FIFA World Cup qualifier in search of a third successive victory in Group G. Ronald Koeman's men kicked-off their campaign in June with a 2:0 win in Finland before a thumping 8:0 win against Malta.
Now returning to Rotterdam, the Oranje will be expected to make it three wins from three in a fixture they have enjoyed dominance in over the past five years, recording four victories including last summer's Euro 2024 triumph.
Three of the last four meetings between these nations finished with BTTS, and a similar outcome could occur this week. The Dutch have conceded at least one goal in nine of their last 12 matches. Eight of those games also finished with both teams on the scoresheet.
Goals can usually be expected when the Dutch are involved. All but three of their last 14 matches finished with over 2.5 goals scored. In addition, a minimum of three goals were scored in ten of the Netherlands last 11 victories.
Ronald Koeman has a 25-man squad to choose from for Thursday's FIFA World Cup qualifier. Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is expected to win his 41st cap this week while fellow Anfield-based teammate Jeremie Frimpong misses out with a hamstring issue.

Poland team overview
Poland make the trip to Rotterdam looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in Helsinki earlier this summer. Having begun their WC qualifying campaign with a pair of underwhelming wins against Lithuania (1:0) and Malta (2:0), the Poles then slipped to a surprise 2:1 defeat in Finland.
That setback cost Michał Probierz his job as head coach, with legendary skipper Robert Lewandowski previously announcing his retirement from international football falling a public spat with the now deposed former boss. Jan Urban is now set for his first competitive fixture in the Polish hotseat.
High-scoring outcomes have been relatively frequent for Poland, particularly in competitive fixtures. Five of their last seven matches (excluding friendlies) finished with over 2.5 goals scored.
Head coach Urban handed a recall to Lewandowski for his first squad selection for the upcoming qualifiers against Netherlands and Finland.
Free agent Bartosz Bereszyński has not been included in the Poles 25-man squad.

Prediction
A strong Dutch side should have too much attacking quality for their Polish visitors on Thursday. I'm backing Netherlands to win, while I also expect a minimum of three goals scored at De Kuip.
Reasons
- Netherlands won 5 of their last 6 matches against Poland
- Netherlands have seen over 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 11 victories
- Poland lost 7 of their last 13 matches
Main prediction Netherlands - Poland
Over 2.5 goals
