- Date: Tuesday, 10th June 2025
- Kickoff: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CEST
- Venue: Euroborg (Groningen)
The Netherlands have missed only two World Cups since 1990, and they are determined to maintain that strong record in the current qualification campaign. Due to their involvement in the UEFA Nations League, Ronald Koeman's side began their qualifiers slightly later, kicking off with a convincing 2-0 away win against Finland on Saturday. The Dutch dominated from start to finish, leaving little doubt about the outcome. Next, they will host Malta, and given the gulf in quality between the two teams, anything short of another comfortable victory would be a major surprise.
Malta never played at a major tournament, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. They have already played three games in the World Cup qualifications, and the only point came on Saturday when Malta played 0-0 at home against Lithuania. While the result may appear solid, scratching the surface tells a different story. Malta registered an xG of just 0.14, struggling to create any real chances in a match that was one of their few realistic opportunities to earn points.
Netherlands vs Malta pick: Under 3.5 goals
Although Malta is one of the weakest football nations in Europe, they rarely lose by significant margins. There were three or fewer goals in each of the previous nine Maltese games, and although the Netherlands are significantly stronger, betting under certainly has value.
Netherlands team news
Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman talked this weekend about his team's lack of strikers. He said that the national team had previously featured Patrick Kluivert, Jan Klaas Janmaat, and Ruud van Nistelrooy, but right now, they lack that kind of player.

Malta team news
Malta failed to produce any good players recently. Teddy Teuma, who appeared in 17 league games for Reims last season, is still the only Maltese player in the top leagues. Until something drastically changed, Malta could hardly expect better results.
