Mozambique finished their last AFCON appearance in the Ivory Coast in the group stage, ending the tournament in 21st place. They have never gone past the group stage, and this year's competition is a good chance to change that. Their win over Gabon (3:2) in the last game was their first ever in 12 AFCON games thus far! At the moment, they have three points and are in third place. However, they are the best third-place team in the rankings, and depending on the results of other fixtures, they could still secure the next phase even with a bad result here. 

After a 3:2 win over Gabon, coach Chiquinho Conde spoke to the media. He said it was a historic day, saying they had to overcome many difficulties and obstacles to achieve something that few had expected. The coach said they gained valuable experience and expressed belief in moving forward. 

Cameroon, a five-time AFCON winner, did not enter the competition as a title contender. That was not a surprise, as the Indomitable Lions haven't had the best results lately, failing to qualify for the upcoming World Cup just before the AFCON. Also, they have struggled in the previous AFCON, exiting the competition in the 1/8 Finals. Still, in the AFCON, the Indomitable Lions did OK, winning four points and sitting at the top. Now, they need only one point from the last game to advance to the next phase.

After a 1:1 draw with the Ivory Coast, coach David Pagou spoke to the media. He said they showed good tactical discipline against a top side like the Ivory Coast. However, he did not spend too much time on the game, saying they are focused on the next match.

For the upcoming game against Mozambique, right full-back Junior Tchamadeu will be suspended as he received his second yellow card in the previous game.
