Mirandes had a magnificent last season, almost securing promotion, losing in the Playoff Finals. However, due to financial problems, the Reds failed to maintain such performances and were forced to make the squad mostly of loaned players. At the moment, they are in 22nd with 17 points from 23 matches - eight points away from the safe zone. Even though eight points is not that far, they are playing terrible football, and relegation seems imminent if they do not make drastic changes. 

Following a poor performance, the club decided to sack coach Jesús Galván and appointed Antxon Muneta on 13th January. That is already the third coach for Mirandes this season. Under coach Muneta, Mirandes lost back-to-back games by a combined score of 1:5. 

Malaga, once a stable La Liga team, dropped to the third tier in the 2023/24 season but are slowly recovering. This season, the Andalusian team has had its ups and downs, but is on a magnificent streak at the moment. They are currently in 3rd place with 38 points from 23 matches - just 1 point behind 2nd place and direct promotion. 

This six-game winning streak is even more impressive given that they have eight injured players on the roster and that they played mostly good teams. For the upcoming tie, the team will also be without Carlos Dotor and Diego Murillo due to a one-game suspension.
