A huge Super Sunday contest takes place this weekend as EPL champions Liverpool take on Manchester City.

The Citizens return to Premier League business after securing their place in the EFL Cup final with a comfortable win against Newcastle earlier this week. Liverpool meanwhile enjoyed a free midweek after a commanding PL win, also against Newcastle, last weekend.

Past encounters between these great rivals usually deliver in the goal markets, and another fascinating contest should be on the card at Anfield.

Liverpool

Liverpool team overview

Liverpool warmed-up for Sunday's Premier League showdown after a commanding 4:1 win against Newcastle last weekend. Hugo Ekitiké returned to goalscoring form as the Reds made a commanding return to winning form.

Arne Slot's side had failed to win four successive EPL games before last weekend´s high-scoring win at Anfield.

Despite some improved form in 2026, domestic clean sheets remain elusive for Liverpool. The Reds conceded at least one goal in seven of their last nine matches (excluding UCL). Five of their last six  domestic games finished with BTTS,

Head coach Slot is unable to call on six first-team players this weekend. Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong are ruled out, while Stefan Bajčetić is also unavailable.

Manchester City team overview

Manchester City make the trip to Anfield after easily securing their safe passage to the EFL Cup final earlier this week. Three first-half goals - including a brace from Omar Marmoush - secured a routine 3:1 second-leg victory, as Pep Guardiola´s side cruised to a 5:1 aggregate success.

Since a pair of disastrous road losses at Manchester United (2:0) and Bodo/Glimt (3:1), Man City have responded well. Pep´s boys won three and drew one of their four most recent fixtures.

Despite dropping points in four of their last five matches, Man City remain in EPL title contention, sitting just six behind Arsenal with 14 games still to play.

Like the hosts, defensive issues have plagued City's campaign. The visitors failed to keep a clean sheet in all but two of their last eight domestic fixtures.

Head coach Guardiola has half-a-dozen expected absentees this weekend. Joško Gvardiol, Mateo Kovačić, Savinho, Jérémy Doku and John Stones are ruled out, while Bernardo Silva is doubtful.
