Lech Poznań will be looking to make the most of home advantage when they welcome Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday evening in a potentially intriguing Europa League encounter. The Polish side enter the contest needing a response after a disappointing opening-day defeat, while Leverkusen arrive with confidence after beginning their European campaign with victory.
Lech Poznan team overview
Lech's European campaign could hardly have started worse, with Niels Frederiksen's side beaten 4-0 by Crystal Palace in London. However, their domestic form has been considerably more encouraging. They followed that European setback with a 5-1 victory over Radomiak Radom and, most recently, a convincing 4-1 away win against Śląsk Wrocław.
The Polish champions currently sit second in the Ekstraklasa with 22 points from nine matches, having won seven of those nine fixtures.
Impressive 5-1 and 4-1 wins in domestic competition were no accident, however, as Lech gave the Premier League side a strong fight despite the final score in their Round 1 fixture, recording 1.55 xG and creating four big chances. They will need to be much more clinical in Poznan on Thursday if they are to get anything from this game against yet another elite opponent from one of Europe's top five leagues.
Patrik Wålemark has been particularly influential, scoring twice against Śląsk to take his domestic tally to four goals in five league appearances. Daniel Håkans has also contributed two goals, while Allahyar Sayyadmanesh has two.
Lech do have some concerns. Ali Gholizadeh remains sidelined with a serious knee injury, while Antoni Kozubal has recently been dealing with a thigh problem. Kamil Jakóbczyk is returning to training following an ankle issue.

Bayer Leverkusen team overview
Leverkusen have made a solid start domestically, sitting fourth in the Bundesliga with 10 points from five matches. Their latest outing produced an entertaining 4-3 victory away to Mainz, their second consecutive Bundesliga win.
Patrik Schick remains one of their biggest attacking threats. The Czech striker scored against Mainz and had already found the net in each of Leverkusen's first four Bundesliga matches, highlighting his excellent early-season form.
Leverkusen also opened their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Celje, maintaining a clean sheet in the process.
However, Carles Martínez has several injury concerns. Christian Kofane suffered a thigh muscle injury while on international duty and is expected to miss the upcoming matches. Eliesse Ben Seghir, Montrell Culbreath and Guéla Doué are also listed among the absentees, while Kennet Eichhorn is unavailable through illness.

Prediction
Leverkusen undoubtedly possess greater individual quality and European experience, but they have shown some defensive vulnerability domestically, including conceding three goals in their most recent Bundesliga match against Mainz. They also arrive in Poznań with several injury concerns, including Christian Kofane, Guéla Doué and Montrell Culbreath.
With home advantage, Lech's recent attacking form and their encouraging underlying numbers against Palace (xG 1.55 and 4 big chances), there is a strong argument that they can keep this contest close. Leverkusen may have enough quality to win, but a comfortable victory looks less likely.
Prediction: Lech Poznan Asian Handicap (+1).
Three reasons we expect Lech Poznan Asian Handicap (+1)
- Lech showed they can compete despite the 4-0 Palace defeat. They recorded 1.55 xG and created four big chances against Crystal Palace.
- Strong recent domestic form should provide confidence. Lech have won their last three league matches, scoring 9 goals, including 5-1 against Radomiak and 4-1 against Śląsk Wrocław.
- Leverkusen may not dominate by a wide margin: Bayer beat Celje 2-0 in their Europa League opener, but Lech are a considerably stronger opponent and should be more difficult to break down in Poznań.
