Interestingly, these teams met in the 2023 Quarter Finals of the Copa Sudamericana. That time, LDU Quito managed to win 2:1 at home and drew 1:1 on the road, and eventually won the competition.
Overall, these teams met six times, with each team winning three times. Regarding the number of goals, four times finished with three or more goals, while both teams scored on three occasions.
LDU Quito team overview
LDU Quito have had two excellent seasons behind them, winning two domestic league titles and the Copa Sudamericana title as well. This year, the popular Los Reyes will most likely fail to win the domestic title as they are sitting in 3rd place with 48 points after 28 rounds - 14 points away from the top spot. Right now, securing the Championship group seems like their maximum.
In the Copa Libertadores, LDU Quito did great, and have already eliminated one Brazilian team in the 1/8 Finals, Botafogo RJ on a 2:1 aggregate. In the previous game against Botafogo RJ, defender Richard Mina received a straight red card and will be suspended. The 26-year-old Mina has massive problems with discipline, as this is his third red card in the last seven appearances.

Sao Paulo team overview
São Paulo haven't had much success in recent years, "only" winning the Brazilian Cup in 2023 - their first trophy in that competition in their 95-year-old history. This year, the popular Tricolour of São Paulo had an awful start and even spent some time in the relegation zone. However, as the season progresses, they are looking better. Right now, they are in 7th place, on a level with 6th-placed Botafago RJ, although with two games played fewer.
In the previous game vs Botafogo RJ, midfielder Rodriguinho suffered an injury and had to leave the field after 77 minutes. However, he will most likely be ready for the upcoming match. Unfortunately, seven other players who missed previous games will remain sidelined, with most of them being an essential part of the rotation.

Prediction
LDU Quito have been fantastic for this type of bet, as the last seven games across the competition ended with fewer than three goals. They really struggled offensively and have failed to score over one goal in six out of those seven matches - 86%
Sao Paulo were also great for an under 2.5 goals bet with seven out of the last eight finishing with fewer than three goals - 87.5%. Additionally, away from home, they struggled offensively, failing to score in three out of four games.
Considering both teams' constant low-scoring games, São Paolo's poor offensive displays away from home, and LDU Quito's mediocre offense in the previous games, we expect fewer than 2.5 goals in this Copa Libertadores tie.
3 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals
- LDU Quito went under 2.5 goals in the last seven games across the competitions
- São Paulo went under 2.5 goals in seven out of the last eight games
- São Paulo failed to score in three out of the last four road games
Main prediction LDU Quito - Sao Paulo
Under 2.5 goals
